Basic Facts About AWD & 4WD

People often believe that the two systems, all-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive, are the same thing and both terms can be used synonymously. Essentially, they do the same thing but they aren't the same. They share a common objective, but go about it in completely different ways and are meant for completely different situations, vehicles, and the people that accompany it.

All-wheel drive is a system that is meant for smaller cars and crossovers, and equally, people who typically novice drivers.

Four-wheel drive is on the other side of the spectrum. It is meant for more of a developed driver. Someone who has a larger vehicle and might take that vehicle to more dangerous places, such as trails or aiding someone out of a ditch.
