Understanding Oil Viscosity

Every car engine needs motor oil to lubricate parts of the engine. The basic concept here is that all engine parts should be separated by a thin oil film. This means that the motor oil in your car engine should be able to work at its optimum level whether the engine is hot or cold.

Without a proper motor oil viscosity, which means a thinner or thicker oil film beyond optimum levels, the engine parts end up touching each other or hardly move, leading to a faster wear and tear process. Therefore, ensure that changing your oil is done with the delicate balance in mind. This means that the motor oil should be able to retain enough viscosity during high and low temperatures to keep the metals separated but still moving.
