What is a Tire Pressure Monitoring System?

March 9th, 2018 by

You can inspect your tires for defects, but you might not notice small issues. Most newer vehicles have sensors that monitor tire pressure. The sensors are constantly collecting data. When the information is interpreted, the tire pressure light illuminates if the air is not at an acceptable level.

Most vehicles have a sensor in each tire. In some vehicles, the sensors monitor the rotation and speed of the wheels. Temperature changes can affect tire pressure. Tire pressure may be low in the winter and high in the summer. Underinflated tires are a risk to you and other drivers. Low air pressure can cause a blowout on the highway. The monitoring sensors are a great safety tool. However, all vehicles still need routine tire pressure maintenance.
